Kyowa Concrete Industry Co., Ltd. was established in Sapporo, Hokkaido in 1955. The company began as a manufacturer of original concrete blocks for revetment. It has now grown to be a comprehensive maker and the nation wide distributor of concrete secondary products in various fields such as forestry and river conservation, roadwork, agriculture, shoreline erosion prevention, harbor and fishing port construction. Algatech Kyowa was founded in 2003. It is the first private research institute associated with the concept of "International Ocean City HAKODATE". This concept purports Hakodate to become a base city for international fisheries. With its geographically advantageous location and with its industrial resources, Hakodate is well suited for the promotion of marine biological sciences. The concept of "International Ocean City HAKODATE" envisions the economic revival and development by bringing together the innovative research and development in the advanced marine technology through the academic institutions located in the city and the regional marine industries in and around the city.
